Hypnobirthing is more than just breathing techniques, it’s a complete antenatal education. I will give you the tools and the confidence to take control of your birth.
How does it work?
Hypnotherapy.
Hypnobirthing uses techniques from hypnotherapy to alter the way that the brain processes fears and stressful situations. This is not the classic stage hypnosis but simply a deep state of relaxation in which the subconscious mind becomes accessible. When your conscious mind is quiet the messages of positivity are able to filter through and replace any fears or negative emotions.
Science.
Hypnobirthing is all based around scientific evidence and a lot of the things you will learn on our courses are about the natural processes and anatomy of the human body. Unfortunately sometimes our thoughts can get in the way of our bodies carrying out their natural processes but once we understand the science we are then able to trust that our body and our baby know what to do. We will teach you how to relax during birth which will then allow your body to do what it was naturally designed to do.
Choice.
The Wonderhood provides parents with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices at every stage of their pregnancy and birth. We encourage parents to take responsibility for their care and therefore we will give you the tools and information to have the birth that you want, helping you to stay calm and positive throughout. It is your body and you are in control of what happens and when.
“The thing about Hypnobirthing is that it works.”
— Tom, Birth Partner
Practice is key.
Read.
You will get a copy of the KGHypnobirthing book by Katharine Graves as part of the course and we will also give you a suggested reading list. It’ll be super beneficial for you to read as much as you can to prepare.
Breathe.
The next piece of the puzzle is the breathing and visualisations that we will recommend you to practice once a day to make sure that you can do it without thinking about it when the time comes. You can also use it in everyday situations, bonus!
Listen.
We also ask that you listen to the audio tracks that we’ll provide each night as you go to sleep. It doesn’t matter if you fall asleep before the end as they will actually work better. Each night you can listen to a different one, I’m sure you’ll find your favourites.
Benefits for the whole family.
The Birthing Person
Hypnobirthing releases the fear and negativity surrounding birth, which empowers the Mother to trust her body and birth in a calm and confident way. The mother is likely to experience a more comfortable and sometimes pain free birth. Shorter labours with less drugs and medical interventions are also very common with KGH mothers. These factors also mean that the mother will bounce back much quicker as her birth is likely to have less of a physical impact.
The Birth Partner
The partner plays a vital role in the pregnancy and birth of their baby, as they practice their Hypnobirthing together they become a calm and confident influence on the mother. The partners’ most important role is to protect the mother and the environment during the labour and birth of their child. Being such a supportive part of the process can deepen and enrich the couples relationship and also helps to create a strong bond with the baby. This is because the Partner knows that they played an important role in bringing the baby into the world.
Your Baby
Hypnobirthing can have a huge positive impact on the baby from pregnancy, through to birth and on into their future. As Hypnobirthing labours are usually shorter and use less drugs and medical interventions this helps the baby to be born into a relaxed and serene environment. This will help the baby to easily and naturally bond with their Mama as soon as they are born, then develop easily and thrive after birth.
